Imagine walking through the air, on an elegant metal wire… And all this between two historic plateaus in Wallonia, on the border with Flanders and the Netherlands. The future Caster footbridge promises a unique experience: dizzying heights, panoramic views and total immersion in nature. By early 2026, Visé and Bassenge will be reconnected by this pedestrian jewel, redefining the boundary between sky and canal.
Walking on air: the promise of the future pedestrian bridge over the canal
Coming in 2026, the Caster footbridge will be an invitation to contemplation and vertigo. Suspended 50 meters above the Albert Canal, it will enable visitors to move slowly, stop and admire the unique landscape of the Caster trench. Designed exclusively for pedestrians, it will also offer an immersive experience… Each step reveals a new panorama of the surrounding plateau and valley.
The audacity to come: design and engineering of the suspended footbridge

The footbridge is distinguished by its lightness and elegance, the result of a design conceived to dialogue with nature. Almost 200 metres long, it will widen at the center to create a contemplative space. It will be ideal for observing the landscape and the valley. The result of collaboration between several experts in architecture, engineering and complex project management, it embodies Wallonia’s technical prowess and bold vision for sustainable infrastructure.
Reconnecting history and nature: what the footbridge will offer visitors

Beyond the aerial experience, the footbridge will enable visitors to rediscover an often little-known border territory (located between Wallonia, Flanders and the Netherlands.) It will link Visé and Bassenge while highlighting the local history, the limestone subsoil and the route of former military roads. For hikers and nature lovers, it will be a unique attraction. It combines heritage, landscape and sensations, while symbolizing cooperation between communes and soft mobility in the region.
