Every year since 1989, unusual, little-known or usually closed places open their doors to the public for two days. This ephemeral event takes place as part of the Journées du Patrimoine – also known as Heritage Days. Following a European initiative, these days have become a not-to-be-missed event for architecture and monument enthusiasts. Last year, for example, you were able to appreciate many Art Nouveau treasures, such as the Aegidium and Maison Roosenboom. And the good news is that the program is now online and reservations are open. But hurry, places to visit these places for free are going very, very fast! Bruxelles Secrète tells you more about Heritage Days 2025.
When will Heritage Days 2025 take place in Brussels?
Like every year, Heritage Days are held on the third weekend in September. So, on Saturday September 20 and Sunday September 21, you can take part in Heritage Days 2025 in Brussels, free of charge! But you can already reserve your places for the tours you want via the following link.
Every year, this not-to-be-missed event gives the public the chance to discover, free of charge, over 190 rare, unusual or usually closed places, illustrating both the built and intangible heritage of Brussels. In addition to the guided tours, the program explores the diversity of the Art Deco movement, its link with the city’s social history, and proposes a reflection on the inclusion and transmission of heritage today.
What sites can be visited free of charge during Heritage Days?
Since 1991, each edition has been accompanied by a special theme. In 2025, the organizers invite you to celebrate the theme “Art Deco, Roaring Twenties, Crash Years”. You’ll be able to explore the evolution of this distinctive architectural movement that has graced Brussels since the 1920s and 1930s.
As stated on the event’s website, “this edition will highlight a wide range of heritage: buildings, facades, interiors, as well as furniture, collections, intangible heritage and public spaces”.
The list of places and buildings to be discovered or rediscovered on free guided tours was unveiled earlier this month. It was published on the Heritage Days website on Thursday, September 4. Among the 195 places and buildings to visit, and themed tours to take, are the following:
- The Archduke
- A visit to the canal district
- The Institute of Arts and Crafts
- The headquarters of the Société des Ports de Bruxelles
- Aerens Hotel
- Alice and David Van Buuren Museum Gardens
- Altitude 100
- Forest
- Saint-Augustin Church
