Forget the mojitos and espresso martinis you’ve seen a thousand times! In Brussels, a discreet café is rewriting the codes of the aperitif… with tea. Welcome to Kage, the dual-identity den where you can sip a matcha latte at lunchtime and a hojicha highball in the evening.
A tea room that focuses on quality
Located on rue Antoine Dansaert, Kage presents itself during the day as a zen space dedicated to tea lovers. Founder and mixologist Boupinh Lam offers a cutting-edge selection of Japanese teas – matcha, hojicha, genmaicha – worked into lattes, infusions or pastries. The atmosphere is calm and bright, ideal for both solo breaks and quiet get-togethers.
An evening menu of infused cocktails
On Friday and Saturday evenings, the place changes its identity to become a tea-based cocktail bar. The menu features a dozen signature creations, combining spirits and infused teas. Hojicha Penicillin Highball, Gyuokuro Last Word and Jasmine Martini. The approach emphasizes the balance between bitterness, freshness and roasted notes. A real delight!
Accompanying small plates
A selection of Japanese and Korean-inspired dishes is also available. From beef tonkatsu sando to 72-hour cooked short ribs and eggplant tempura. This offer makes it possible to extend the experience without falling into the restaurant format. And just recently, Kage was awarded the title of Belgium’s Best Mixomaniac 2025 by the Fooding Guide, confirming its hybrid positioning between contemporary tearoom and experimental bar. An original and well-deserved award!
