There are logos you barely notice and those that can become a real gateway for lovers of Belgian cuisine. Since 2018, the Brusselicious label has recognized Brussels restaurants that showcase the country’s specialties. But starting in 2027, the rules of the game will change—and certain very Belgian details could make all the difference.
A certification program that will no longer be satisfied with just looking at the menu
Until now, Brusselicious has focused primarily on the quality, authenticity, freshness, and origin of ingredients; culinary techniques; the establishment’s Belgian character; and value for money. The new approach will go further: the establishment as a whole will be put under the microscope.
The venue’s heritage value, the quality of the experience and service, the execution of the dishes, house-made preparations, and value for money… But visitor reviews and feedback will also be factored into the evaluation going forward. The selection process will combine the expertise of Visit Brussels with that of an external jury, using a shared evaluation system.
And yes, fries will have a say in the matter
Perhaps the most interesting part lies in the details. Visit Brussels has announced thatspecial attention will be paid to establishments serving fresh fries, homemade mayonnaise, and beers brewed in Brussels. These three elements could therefore carry more weight in the race for the coveted logo.
For now, the full criteria aren’t yet known: they’re set to be unveiled in early 2027. The label already includes more than 40 establishments, and a new selection is currently scheduled for this year.
In other words, next year, ordering a good shrimp croquette might not be enough. You’ll also have to pay attention to what ends up on your plate… and probably take a look at the mayonnaise.
