After the opening of Plaisirs d’Hiver, the Christmas atmosphere seems to be invading Brussels. And yes, the Poechenellekelder, an authentic downtown estaminet, has been setting up its ephemeral gourmet winter chalet for a few weeks now. An event we look forward to every year.
In this place, instantly recognizable thanks to its colorful bicycle facade, you can enjoy the delicious scents of mulled wine, hot chocolate and other delicacies typical of the cold season… Bruxelles Secrète tells you more about this atypical winter venue, which you should try out while there’s still time.
The Poechenellekelder winter chalet: the place to be during the cold season in Brussels.
With the countdown to Christmas well underway, we’re desperate to find the season’s best activities to keep us waiting. There are, of course, the traditional Christmas markets, skating rinks and good places to eat fondues and raclettes. But in Brussels, there are plenty of places where you could bump into Santa Claus.

Among them, the traditional winter chalet of the Poechenellekelder, which returns to warm our hearts as soon as the cold season dawns. This typical Brussels estaminet, located rue du Chêne 5, has been in existence since 1991. And 2025 follows in the tradition of previous editions. Since mid-November, the chalet has been open from Thursday to Sunday, offering products reminiscent of a typical Christmas market. Mulled wines, hot chocolates, beers, genepi… you might even find a raclette! Après-ski evenings are yours at the Chalet du Poech. Little tip: don’t forget your hats and gloves.
