Built of limestone rubble and with slate roofs, these houses come together to form the picturesque narrow streets with flower-filled facades of the village.

But it is in the heart of the village that the charm really works its magic. First of all, there is the ancient Romanesque chapel of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, a listed monument built in the 12th century, whose slender spire signals its presence. Descending towards the stream, you will discover the old Pont-Lavoir, another of Chardeneux’s heritage treasures. Built in the first half of the 19th century, this bridge has a small staircase leading directly to the stream, which was once used by washerwomen to wash clothes. It offers a romantic contrast between the sturdy stone and the soothing presence of the water.
