For one weekend, a peaceful village in the Semois Valley becomes one of Belgium’s most astonishing stages. In Chassepierre, the streets, gardens, meadows, and squares welcome dozens of troupes from around the world for a festival where street arts come to life in a bucolic setting. A summer getaway that blends performances, nature, and heritage in an atmosphere worthy of a circus.
An entire village transformed into a performance stage
For over fifty years, the Chassepierre International Street Arts Festival has been bringing this small village in the Gaume region—ranked among the most beautiful in Wallonia—to life. But here, there are no dark theaters. Artists take over every nook and cranny of the village to present performances featuring acrobatics, theater, dance, music, contemporary circus, and even puppetry. As you wander through the narrow streets, one surprise follows another, and every stroll becomes a show in its own right. For this 52nd edition, more than 50 Belgian and international companies will present nearly 200 performances. And Chassepierre will become a vast open-air theater. Visitors can create their own itinerary, guided by their whims and discoveries.
A getaway blending culture and nature
Beyond the performances, Chassepierre’s charm plays a key role in the festival’s magic. Nestled along the banks of the Semois River, the village charms visitors with its stone houses, flower-lined alleyways, and lush green landscapes. Between performances, visitors can enjoy the outdoor cafes, stalls run by local producers and artisans, or simply take a stroll along the river.
