A castle that tells the story of several eras
Perched high above Stoumont, the Château de Froidcour looks like something out of a medieval novel… Its towers and imposing appearance are reminiscent of a fortress of yesteryear, but its history is more recent than you might imagine. Built between 1912 and 1919, it is the successor to a noble residence which for centuries was home to the de Lynden family, barons of Froidcour. Listed as a Walloon heritage site, the estate today extends over 50 hectares of unspoilt countryside and majestically overlooks the Amblève valley, offering a grandiose backdrop where echoes of the past can still be heard.
A night in the falcon’s nest
One of Froidcour’s most astonishing experiences lies at the end of the 82 steps of a spiral staircase. They lead to an unusual room at the very top of the keep! Nicknamed the “falcon’s nest”, it welcomes two travelers in a romantic cocoon, with a plunging view over the valley. A fully-equipped kitchen, gas stove and bath provide unexpected comfort in this stone tower which, in the right season, also serves as a refuge… for the real falcons that come to nest here. A rare setting for an authentic and relaxing stay.
The Ardennes at your fingertips
Around the château, the range of activities on offer will appeal to nature lovers and culture buffs alike. Forest walks, skiing and mountain biking start directly from the estate, while the Cascades de Coo, the Spa-Francorchamps race circuit and Stavelot Abbey are just a few minutes away. After a busy day, you can extend your adventure in one of the château’s other rooms or in the large gîte designed to accommodate groups. But for those who love a singular experience, the dungeon room is undoubtedly the most memorable address.
