Fancy an autumn interlude within easy driving distance of Brussels? Nestled in a verdant valley north of Luxembourg, Château d’Urspelt combines historic elegance, contemporary comfort and a surprising wellness area. Here’s why this getaway is perfect for slowing down the pace.
Three centuries of history and a renaissance
Listed as a national monument, Château d’Urspelt sits at the heart of the Our valley. Its origins date back to the XIIIᵉ century, but the current building dates from the XVIIIᵉ. During the Second World War, it was used in turn as a command post and field hospital, before being abandoned and overgrown. Fortunately, the château was restored to its former glory in 2008, thanks to a titanic restoration by Freddy Lodomez and a team of passionate craftsmen. Today, every stone seems to tell the story of that rescue.
Rooms, estate and Luxembourg charm
Behind its immaculate façade, the château is home to 57 subtly decorated rooms and suites: period furniture, soft colors and muted lighting. The estate extends over 20,000 m² of private parkland, with a paved courtyard, orchard, fountain and a renovated farmhouse housing the gourmet restaurant. In autumn, the trees take on warm colors and the calm of the valley invites you to stroll or simply relax. The setting is simply cinematic!
The grotto spa: surprise and immersive relaxation
The truly unusual feature? A unique troglodyte pool, carved into the rock and bathed in subdued light. This 800 m² NUXE® spa also includes hammams, private saunas, a whirlpool bath and a relaxation room. Access costs €60, but is free if you book a treatment. On your way out, enjoy a drink in the château’s secret bar. Discreet luxury, nature and a touch of mystery: the perfect combination for an autumn weekend for two!
