Unemployment and pensions
- Unemployment benefits are gradually disappearing for almost 103,000 people. First those with 20 years’ unemployment, then 8-20 years (March), and less than 8 years (April). Exceptions: over-55s with long careers and training for occupations in short supply. After 2030, the derogation will be extended to 35 years of career.
- The pension bonus applies retroactively to those who postpone retirement. 35 years of career with at least 156 days worked per year, for a total of 7020 days. Annual bonus: 2% for 1962 and earlier, 4% for 1963-1972, 5% for 1973 and later. Malus for early retirement begins in 2027.
Work and absence
- The return-to-work policy for the long-term sick is strengthened. Employers, doctors and health insurers are made more accountable. If incapacity >6 months, the contract can be terminated on medical grounds.
- Uncertified days of absence reduced from 3 to 2, non-consecutive.
- Self-employed mothers are exempt from social security contributions for two quarters after childbirth.
Mobility and vehicles
- In Wallonia, the entire licensing process must be completed in the same Region.
- In Brussels, Euro 5 diesel and Euro 2 petrol vehicles are inspected. Some 225,000 vehicles are concerned. A warning letter is sent, followed by a fine after three months in the event of a further infringement.
- An environmental contribution applies to electric vehicles to finance battery recycling.
Health and safety
- Three new sexual violence centers open in Jette, Tournai and Ottignies. Each province now has at least one center. Medical follow-up, psychological support and the possibility of filing a complaint. Total of 13 centers in Belgium.
Money and services
- Your electricity bills are set to rise by 12.5%.
- Water prices in Brussels will also rise by 12.5%.
- For stamps and parcels, expect to pay around 6% more, or almost 10 centimes.
- Meal vouchers have risen to €10.
- De Lijn fines rise to €127, and Proximus subscriptions from €1 to €4.
- More than half a million workers will see their salaries rise by 2.21%, or around €30 net per month on a gross salary of €4,000.
- The capital gains tax comes into force and is expected to bring in almost €500 million for the State.
