In Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, a wind of renewal is blowing over the former Delhaize site. LionCity, an ambitious temporary project, transforms this space into a cultural and social crossroads. At the heart of this effervescence, the LEO Café stands out as the place to be for Brussels’ creatives.
LionCity: an urban metamorphosis in progress
Occupying the former Delhaize distribution center, LionCity covers 31,350 m² of indoor space and 12,000 m² of outdoor space. This temporary project aims to revitalize Molenbeek by offering spaces dedicated to crafts, sport, culture, gastronomy and urban agriculture. Artists, entrepreneurs and associations find fertile ground here to develop their projects and interact with the local community. LionCity has thus become a veritable urban laboratory, where social and cultural innovation are central concerns.
LEO Café: the beating heart of LionCity
Nestled in the heart of LionCity, LEO Café is much more than just a bar: it’s the focal point for Brussels’ creative minds. Its interior, designed by Recyclart Fabrik, is a masterpiece of sustainable design, with 80% of materials reused on site. The spectacular 15-metre bar, suspended lighting and wood and steel furniture create a warm and unique atmosphere. LEO Café offers a rich program, from intimate concerts to wild karaoke nights, open mics and vintage markets. Each event is an invitation to discover and share, reflecting the inclusive and dynamic spirit of LionCity.
A promising future for Molenbeek
LionCity may be a temporary project, but its impact on Molenbeek is set to last. Ultimately, citydev.brussels plans to transform the site into a mixed-use neighborhood. It will combine subsidized and social housing, production workshops, a supermarket, public facilities and green spaces. In the meantime, LionCity and the LEO Café offer Brussels residents a foretaste of what the future of this neighborhood could be: vibrant, inclusive and resolutely forward-looking !
