The history of ParckFarm is rooted inold industrial railroad tracks, a site once dedicated to trade and the transport of goods. Having become a major customs and rail hub in northern Europe during the 19th century, the site was eventually abandoned over time. Left derelict and forgotten, this former infrastructure found a new lease on life in 2014, driven by an innovative ecological vision.
It was during the “Parckdesign” festival, initiated by Brussels Environment, that ParckFarm first emerged as a pop-up project. Designed around the slogan “from the landscape to the plate,” this concept of an edible, participatory park was originally intended to last just one season. Faced with massive enthusiasm from local residents, citizens came together to make the adventure permanent and foundedthe nonprofit ParckFarm. Today, this citizen-led initiative has permanently transformed the site into a “social farm,” whereurban agriculture and local solidarity are reinventing daily life in the neighborhood.
A Summer at Parckfarm: Walks, Culinary Delights, and Reconnecting with Nature
At the center of this dynamic, the Farmhouse serves as the beating heart of the project. This welcoming greenhouse houses a cafeteria run by volunteers and staff, where visitors can settle in to read, play, or enjoy vegetarian dishes and local beverages at affordable prices. A true laboratory of circular ecology, the site operates on an ultra-short supply chain: rainwater is collected for the nursery, and dishwater is fully purified through a phytoremediation system using plants.
This summer of 2026, the schedule promises to be particularly exciting for visitors looking to unwind. Every Wednesday at noon, the Cuisine Voisine collective offers community lunches with Mediterranean flavors. Afternoons give way to “Green Wednesdays” and a multitudeof creative or culinary workshops focused on wild plants and herbalism.
