From an industrial past to community workshops: the COOP solidarity project
COOP is rooted in the heart of a former industrial neighborhood that propelled Brussels to the ranks of a world power in the early 20th century. Beautifully renovated, the site occupiesthe former Moulart flour mill, built in 1904. In this rapidly changing area, a unique grassroots culture has developed along the canal. True to its motto, “We have to do it together! ”, the venue offers a space for collective empowerment where organizations, schools, and residents work together to shapethe local future.
To bring this active citizenship to life, COOP offers a wide range of completely free activities and workshops. Visitors can explore an interactive exhibition using 14 QR codes on their smartphones, leading all the way to the panoramic terrace. The site also offers five themed guided tours focusing onindustrial history,immigration, and social struggles. Finally, hands-on, collaborative workshops invite visitors to stimulate their creativity andspirit of cooperation.
