Brussels has a new address where you can tap your toes and toast to live music. The Toots Jazz Club, a stone’s throw from the Grand-Place, will soon be reinventing jazz evenings with a very local touch. Get ready to jazz, jam, dance and… zwanzonner.
Jazz sous dorures: when Brussels swings in the center of town
Nestled at 6 rue des Chapeliers, where the walls have already seen plenty of riffs and laughter, Toots Jazz Club is establishing itself as Brussels’ new jazz HQ. At the helm: Joachim Caffonnette, renowned pianist and stage agitator, who is transforming this legendary former bar into a Belgian jazz Mecca. But there’s no mothballs or pretentiousness here: this is a celebration of jazz that’s lively, joyful, daring – and well-watered. With up to eight events a week, the club promises lively nights and even nostalgic afternoons.
A program of swing, jam and surprises
At Toots Jazz Club, every night has its own groove. On Wednesdays and weekends, you can jam the night away! Admission is free and the vibes are guaranteed. Thursday: back in time! Pre-1950 jazz, retro ambience and a dance floor open to Lindy Hop dancers. Fridays and Saturdays? It’s time to relax, order a house cocktail and listen to two sets by hand-picked artists. And on Sundays, it’s time for the “Nostalgia in Grand Place” series, where local bands revisit cult albums or pay tribute to the great figures of the genre.
Cocktails, gueuze and improvisation: a Brussels-style club
The bar is anything but standard. There’s a sharp selection of local beers, bubbles for special occasions, New Orleans-inspired cocktails, and alcohol-free options that have it all. Table service means you can enjoy the concert without leaving your seat – except for dancing. The cherry on the Gueuze: the club plays the typically Brussels conviviality card, that unique blend of warmth, humor and music. A new spot to try out, whether you’re a jazz fan or just looking for a good night out.
