What if you explored Ostend in a different way this winter? From November 27, 2026, to January 3, 2027, the North Sea city will host “Vague de lumière.” It’s a nighttime stroll that invites you to rediscover its streets and buildings under the cover of night. For nearly two hours, visitors will follow a route punctuated by lights, projections, and an audio narrative inspired by the city’s maritime identity.
A nighttime stroll that reveals Ostend in a new light

Here, it’s not just about strolling past a few light displays. “Wave of Light” transforms several iconic locations in Ostend into true performance stages. Seven installations are spread out over approximately three kilometers. The route passes by the Kursaal, Leopold Park, Lijnbaanstraat, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, the train station, the Groentemarkt, and the Capuchin Church.
And that’s not all: the experience is also enjoyed through your ears. An audio narrative accompanies the walk, adding a storytelling dimension to each stop along the way. The tour is available in French, allowing you to fully enjoy the story while moving at your own pace. Tours depart every fifteen minutes between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., so you can start your walk once night has truly fallen.
Projections, iconic landmarks, and a little winter interlude

One of the highlights of the tour is precisely its setting: rather than staging a show in an isolated location, “Wave of Light” uses the city itself as its canvas. Facades, historic buildings, and public spaces become the backdrop for various light installations. Some stops also take place indoors, notably at the Kursaal, the train station, and the Capuchin Church.
The route ends near Wapenplein, where the Christmas market lets you extend your evening after the walk. In total, expect the walk to take 1.5 to 2 hours, covering about 3 kilometers. And good news for those who feel the cold: rain alone won’t cancel the event. Only a severe storm capable of preventing the installations from functioning could lead to a cancellation. The route is also wheelchair-accessible, and dogs are allowed. So there’s a great reason to head to the coast!
📍 Address: The tour starts at the Ostend Tourist Office, Monacoplein 2.
