What if you no longer needed company to treat yourself to a nice restaurant? As dining alone seems to be gradually becoming the norm, one Brussels restaurant has decided to make a special place for it. At Osteria Romana, diners who come alone now receive a glass of Champagne on the house.
A table for one, no questions asked

Booking a table for one can still feel like you have to justify yourself. Is someone going to join us? Are we waiting for someone else? Yet going to a restaurant alone can simply be a way to enjoy some time to yourself, without having to coordinate your schedule with that of three friends.
According to a study conducted by Lightspeed among 1,000 Belgian consumers, 48% of those surveyed said they sometimes dine out alone. Among those who practice solo dining, 42% say they do so to relax and take time for themselves. These figures illustrate a shift in habits, even if they don’t mean that all diners systematically prefer to eat alone.
A glass of Champagne to kick off the evening
It was with this in mind that Filippo La Vecchia, chef and founder of Osteria Romana, came up with this new gesture. Anyone who comes to dine alone at his restaurant receives a complimentary glass of Champagne. No special menu, no specific package: just a small gesture to welcome guests who have chosen to treat themselves to an evening out at a restaurant.
The idea is quite appealing: you can come for the restaurant’s Roman specialties, order a carbonara or a few dishes to share… with yourself, this time. Located on Avenue Legrand, Osteria Romana offers high-end Italian cuisine in an elegant setting, notably featuring its signature pastas and Roman classics.
The joy of no longer having to wait
Dining alone is obviously not a requirement, and some people still prefer to share their meal. But whether it’s after a long day at work, a sudden urge to go out, or simply the need to do something for yourself, waiting for someone else to be available isn’t always necessary.
So why not make your next reservation for just one person? At Osteria Romana, it could start with a glass of ice-cold Champagne!
