Every year since 1989, unusual, little-known, or usually closed-to-the-public sites open their doors for two days! This must-see event takes place as part of Heritage Days, also known as Journées du Patrimoine. Following a European initiative, these days have become an essential cultural event for locals and visitors to the capital alike. Last year, for example, you were able to enjoy numerous Art Deco treasures—an iconic movement in Brussels. And here’s some good news: reservations open tomorrow! But hurry—spots to visit these places for free go fast!
When will Brussels Heritage Days take place this year?
As every year, Heritage Days take place on the third weekend of September. So on Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, you’ll be able to participate in Heritage Days 2026 in Brussels for free. Reservations will open on Tuesday, September 8, on the event’s official website.

Organized by Urban, this exceptional event allows the public to explore a multitude of rare, unusual, or usually secret sites for free. New this year: throughout the weekend, an information desk located at 20 Mont des Arts (open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) will welcome you to provide guidance, answer your questions, and introduce you to the exhibition of the 20 winning photographs from the Urban Zoom Schools 2026 contest, selected from over 850 photos taken by Brussels high school students.
Which sites can you visit for free during Heritage Days 2026?
Since 1991, each edition has featured a special theme. In 2026, the 38th edition invites you to explore the capital under the theme “Our Landscape, Our Heritage.” It’s an opportunity to take a fresh look at the city through its parks, urban vistas, underground spaces, and unique panoramas.

Among the extensive program offered this year, there are superb themed tours and iconic sites to discover:
- Brussels City Hall
- Brussels Turned Upside Down: The Landscape in the Mirror
- Maison du Roi – Museum of the City of Brussels
- The South Tower of the Cathedral of Saints Michael and Gudula and its panoramic view
- The Grand Hospice
- The Brussels Palace of Justice
- BELvue on top!
- The Botanique, an exotic garden in the city
- National Basilica of the Sacred Heart
- Van Buuren Museum
Hurry and reserve your spots starting September 8!
