Brussels’ café scene is definitely still expanding. Over the past few months, four new spots have opened their doors in the capital, each with a very specific vision of what a great coffee break should be. From bagels and specialty espresso to comforting brunch or all-day lunch options, there’s plenty to keep things interesting. Here’s a quick rundown of the new spots to keep an eye out for.
Malō Coffee, the coffee-and-bagel combo Ixelles was missing
Located on Chaussée de Waterloo, between Châtelain and Bascule, Malō Coffee is all about being a neighborhood coffee shop. People come here for coffee as well as for lunch. Behind this new spot is Eloïse de Streel, who hascreated a cozy space centered around specialty coffee and generously topped bagels. The menu features some particularly tempting combinations, such as the Miso Egg Salad with miso, cottage cheese, and chili crisp, or the Simply Salmon, with fresh and smoked salmon, pickled onions, trout roe, and lemon.
Lil’Bouche, the little espresso bar that’s unlike any other
In the heart of Brussels, Lil’Bouche is the new venture from Antoine Cornil, who’s already behind Bouche and My Little Cup. Here, there’s no endless menu! The concept revolves around espresso anda regularly rotating selection of coffees, each with different flavor profiles to explore. The barista can guide you based on your tastes, while the interior—located behind the former façade of the Minet Frères bookstore—features a ribbed green counter and cherry-red walls. For the curious, there are even coffee flights that let you compare several coffees.
Journal, Stockel’s new chic and laid-back eatery
In Stockel, Journal turns the coffee break into an experience in its own right. Conceived by chef Anh-Tu and her sister Vivi Pham, the spot is open from morning until evening, serving hearty dishes ranging from burgers to roast chicken, from mac & cheese to house-made waffles topped with smoked salmon and a poached egg. The decor evokes a vacation home somewhere between the North Sea coast, the Hamptons, and California, with light wood, touches of yellow, and striped accents. It’s a spot particularly well-suited for family brunches, leisurely lunches, and afternoon snacks that go on and on.
Facil, the new spot where you can grab a bite to eat almost any time
Right in the heart of the city, Facil relies on a simple and effective concept: a spot to stop by first thing in the morning for breakfast, come back for a sandwich at lunchtime, or simply enjoy a sweet treat and a good cup of coffee in the afternoon. Opening in the spring of 2026, this new spot offers a daytime menu featuring savory dishes, toast, and pastries, all paired with Articule coffee. Its location on Rue des Alexiens also makes it a convenient option for a gourmet break in the heart of Brussels.
