Arepas are a culinary specialty straight out of Latin America, and more specifically from Venezuela and Colombia. But what exactly are they? Arepas are delicious corn breads filled with all kinds of ingredients. In fact, the word “arepa” comes from the word “erepa”, which means corn in the dialect of the Cumanagotos, an ancient indigenous people of Venezuela and Colombia. As for the ingredients used to fill arepas, they range from ham and cheese to beans, eggs and avocado. In short, they’re made to taste! And then enjoy them on the go, as a snack, or as an accompaniment to other dishes, for lunch or dinner. Here’s where to find the best in Brussels!
Arepas’s Factory
Arepa’s Factory specializes in Venezuelan cuisine. Here, you can enjoy authentic arepas. Try the chicken arepa with tomatoes, onions and peppers. Or our favorite, black beans cooked with coriander, onion and peppers. We like to add a little extra of the typical cottage cheese. Yummy!

Caroni
Caroni, a cozy little restaurant in the Sablon district, also offers genuine Venezuelan arepas. It’s undoubtedly one of the best options, both for arepa lovers and for those who want to try one for the first time! The staff are extremely attentive and happy to help you make the right choice. We recommend the gourmet Reina pepiada arepa, with shredded chicken, creamy avocado, mayonnaise and a touch of fresh herbs.

Mundo Latino
At Mundo Latino, in Schaerbeek, you can not only enjoy delicious arepas, but you can also buy a wide variety of Latin American products. Beverages, flours, condiments – in short, everything you need to cook delicious dishes at home. As for the menu, we fell for the arepa stuffed with a mix of meats, but also for the sweet arepa, with chocolate and cheese. Surprisingly delicious!
