Green enthusiasts are invited tothe Boitsfort Hippodrome on September 26 and 27, 2026. For the first time, the Jardins de l’HippoDrohme will transform this iconic venue into a vast botanical playground, with completely free admission.
A green weekend, Brussels-style
Spanning over 1,000 m², some 40 exhibitors will showcase houseplants, varieties for balconies and gardens, seeds, tools, and handmade crafts. Environmental organizations and public agencies will also be on hand to share advice and highlight local initiatives.
All set against a rather spectacular backdrop… The Boitsfort Racetrack, one of the capital’s green lungs, easily accessible by sustainable transportation.
Much more than just a plant market
The program isn’t limited to plant shopping. Visitors can take part in guided walks and workshops for children. They can also attend talks with experts in sustainable gardening and enjoy a food corner to round out the day. The idea? To make environmentalism accessible and fun, free from guilt-inducing rhetoric.
Among the curiosities to discover? The “oyas”—terracotta pots buried near the roots. These help conserve a significant amount of water by gradually watering the plants.
The Return of Horses to the Racetrack
The most unexpected moment of the weekend will undoubtedly be the presence of draft horses at a site that hasn’t hosted them in a long time. It’s a nod to the Hippodrome’s equestrian past and a rare opportunity to get up close to these impressive animals right in the heart of the city.
With 5,000 visitors expected, the Jardins de l’HippoDrohme could well become the new must-attend event for Brussels residents who love plants… without leaving the city.
