There are festivals you attend for their lineup, and others for the venue that hosts them. The Doel Festival clearly belongs to the second category… while still honoring the first. On July 25, 2026 , this one-of-a-kind event will take over the streets of Doel, that Flemish ghost town an hour from Brussels whose turbulent history has fascinated people for decades.
A festival in the heart of a village with an incredible fate
Contrary to what its nickname suggests, Doel is not a completely abandoned village. In the 1960s, authorities planned to raze it to make way for the expansion of the Portof Antwerp. Faced with this threat, many residents gradually left, leaving behind nearly deserted streets and boarded-up houses. After decades of uncertainty and more than 25 years of legal battles, the village was finally saved in 2022. Still home to a handful of residents (18, according to a 2020 census), Doel is looking to move forward and attract new residents, while its heritage and unique atmosphere are drawing more and more visitors.
Fourteen hours of music, art, and surprises
For one day, the streets of Doel become a vast playground for artistic exploration. On the program: a carefully curated selectionof electronic music artists and live concerts. But also an open-air art exhibition, a participatory market, installations scattered throughout the village, and a host of surprise happenings. The organizers promise an immersive experience. Every alleyway holds its own share of discoveries, as if you were stepping into a life-size work of art.
