Brussels is about to enjoy an enchanted interlude! On November 13, the Grand-Place will vibrate to the rhythm of a royal banquet straight out of the Middle Ages. Between ancient music, a gargantuan feast and the laughter of troubadours, the King of Spain invites guests to a sensory and historical experience. An evening that promises to combine folklore and pleasure for the senses!
A sensory journey to the heart of the Middle Ages
Behind its gilded façade, the Roy d’Espagne is preparing a total metamorphosis. Its great hall, usually animated by the conversations of customers and lovers of Belgian beers, will become the setting for a royal banquet worthy of the great courts of Europe. Musicians, jugglers and troubadours will disturb modern times. All in an atmosphere where epic tales mingle with laughter. By candlelight, guests will be immersed in a universe where every detail – from service to costumes – transports the imagination to another era.
A menu that resurrects the flavors of yesteryear
Le Roy d’Espagne revisits the pleasures of the medieval table without sacrificing its contemporary standards. Fragrant soups, simmered meats, winter vegetables, sweet spices and fruity desserts… Each dish is conceived as a historical madeleine, capable of arousing curiosity as much as appetite. Service is meticulous but unpretentious, in keeping with the spirit of popular feasts. Generous, convivial and a touch theatrical. And while the glasses may no longer be overflowing with mead, the Belgian brewers will ensure that your medieval thirst remains quenched!
Costumes, surprises and lively folklore
More than a dinner party, it’s a participatory experience! Here, the audience becomes part of the festivities. Guests are encouraged to don their finest period coats, capes and gowns. And the most daring will receive a “surprise du Roy”, an amusing nod to their sense of fun! The event, limited in number of places to preserve an intimate atmosphere, is already shaping up to be one of Brussels’ most unusual autumn rendezvous. A blend of folklore and fantasy, this Grand Dîner Médiéval will turn the Grand-Place into a living stage set. A place where history can be savored to the full, and where time, for a few hours, stands still.
