Brussels has never lacked for coffee shops, but not all of them can claim to transport you to New York between sips of coffee. Opened this summer on Rue de la Reinette, Muse focuses on a very specific specialty: bagels made using the traditional New York method, at a spot where you can just as easily linger over lunch… as discover a Pilates studio!
Bagels that take New York very seriously
At Muse, the menu is intentionally short. The bagels are made New York-style before being topped with fillings ranging from the classic cream cheese to more generous options. Highlights include “The OG,” with smoked salmon, cucumber, capers, and red onions, and “The Breakkie,” topped with eggs, cheddar, and tomatoes.
More unexpectedly, The Toad features sautéed oyster mushrooms with garlic butter and parsley, while the Tuna Melt combines tuna, cheddar, and tomatoes. A menu designed to fill you up—which is quite handy when you discover that the spot also houses a studio right next door.
A café where you can hang out… even without working out
This is where Muse stands out. The coffee shop is open to everyone and operates independently of the studio: no need to change into workout clothes or book a class just to order a bagel or a coffee. Those who wish can then head from the counter to the Reformer Pilates studio or to MA’AT classes, a mat-based practice guided by rhythm and music.
But the appeal of Muse is precisely that it doesn’t make working out an obligation. You can stop by after a workout, before a meeting , or simply because you were craving a good bagel. And on this quiet little street in downtown, that’s already a great reason to walk through the door.
