With its atypical traditions, Belgium is a special country that does nothing like the others. And we’re proud of it! While our neighbors hunt down chocolate eggs at Easter, we prefer a more challenging game. After the Ferme de Mont-Saint-Jean, it’s the turn of the Lutgarde d’Aywiers brewery to organize a beer hunt. And it’s no small affair: with over 10,000 mugs to be unearthed, it’s the biggest beer hunt in the world! Last year, over 1,000 participants flocked to the magnificent gardens of this abbey, founded around 1215. Who’s up for the challenge this year?
The world’s biggest beer hunt, at Aywiers Abbey
For this fifth edition, fans of fun and beer are invited to track down the legendary Golden Lutgarde, the Holy Grail that will earn them… their weight in beer! And the good news is, you’ll go home with every beer you find! And there are 10,000 beers up for grabs, so there’s plenty to fill your fridge.
Beers or chocolates: a hunt for the whole family
But above all, the beer hunt in the gardens of Aywiers Abbey is a warm, family-friendly event. From noon onwards, children will be on the hunt for chocolate eggs, because yes, just like beer, chocolate is also a Belgian speciality. At 12:30 pm, it’s the adults’ turn to enter the fray. As you can see from last year’s after-movie, you can even come dressed up for even more fun. Finally, from 1:30 p.m. onwards, it’ s time for a big BBQ, a bar with beers on tap and a sunny atmosphere (fingers crossed). And to round off the day, live bands will keep you dancing and rocking from start to finish.
Registration is already open, and can be done via a website. Cost: 5 euros for children and 20 euros for adults. Children under 16 won’t be able to take part in the beer hunt.
