Christmas Magic and Traditions: The Grand Return of Plaisirs d’Hiver 2026
For five weeks, the heart of Brussels is transformed into one of the world’s most renowned Christmas markets. Spanning eight iconic areas of the capital, the “Plaisirs d’Hiver” route invites visitors on an enchanting stroll punctuated by 238 wooden chalets. From the majestic Grand-Place, enhanced by its giant Christmas tree and legendary sound-and-light show, to the gourmet stalls at Place Sainte-Catherine and the Vismet, the event offers a total immersion in the delights of the holiday season and local crafts.

This 2026 edition also gives pride of place to cultural exchanges by welcoming Béarn-Pyrénées and the Basque Country as guests of honor. On Place de la Bourse, a brand-new Basque-Béarn village will take shape, bringing the flavors of southwestern France to life in the city center. With culinary specialties, artisanal crafts, and the Creators Factory designer market, Plaisirs d’Hiver once again combines festive tradition with warm, welcoming encounters this year.
An ice rink, giant Christmas trees, and a festive spirit: plenty of activities for young and old alike
Beyond a gourmet stroll, Plaisirs d’Hiver offers a wide range of fun activities throughout the city center. Place De Brouckère features its famous ice rink, curling rinks, and an immersive virtual reality experience. Near the Black Tower, the children’s village is decked out in a “Sucre d’orge” theme, featuring storytelling, creative workshops, and visits from Santa Claus. Further on, at the Vismet, visitors can take to the skies aboard the Ferris wheel to admire an illuminated panorama of the capital.

This 2026 edition also highlights local creativity and solidarity. On Place de la Monnaie, a monumental upcycled structure houses Christmas trees made from recycled materials and offers participatory workshops open to everyone. Finally, nestled at the foot of the Palais de Justice, Place Poelaert joins the market with a cozy mini-village. With gourmet terraces, breathtaking views of the city, and a toy drive for underprivileged children, this new addition wraps up the tour with a spirit of sharing.
