There’s no shortage of beer festivals in Belgium, but this one has a serious advantage that sets it apart. From June 12 to 14, Vaucelles Abbey (France) will host the fifth edition of the Abbey Beer Festival! An event that blends heritage, tastings, and a festive atmosphere in a spectacular setting. For Brussels beer lovers, the trip is well worth the journey.
Abbey beers from France and Belgium
Throughout the weekend, visitors will be able to discover a selection of some of the most iconic breweries in the world of abbey beers. The Brasserie de Vaucelles will be on home turf alongside the Abbaye d’Aulne, well known to Belgian beer lovers. But also Saint-Wandrille, Clairmarais, Vivat, and Les 2 Ours.

Added to this is an impressive Trappist bar featuring nearly 60 varieties, including Orval, Chimay, Rochefort, Westmalle, Zundert, and Tynt Meadow. A few rare brews will even be available in limited quantities.
The beer everyone will want to try
One of the major highlights of this year’s event is called “Frères.” Brewed especially for the occasion by the monks of Saint-Wandrille Abbey—who are celebrating their brewery’s 10th anniversary this year—this saison-style lager is produced in collaboration with Brasserie de Vaucelles and L’Échappée Bière.

Dry, refreshing, and slightly bitter, it will be served exclusively at the festival. Another highly anticipated new release? Chimay Jaune, launched to mark the 175th anniversary of Scourmont Abbey, as well as St Bernardus’s first non-alcoholic beer.
Concerts, food trucks, and a friendly atmosphere
The festival isn’t limited to tastings. Concerts, DJ sets, blues, swing, gypsy jazz, rock, and funk will set the pace for the three days of festivities. On the food front, burgers, Mexican cuisine, waffles, churros, ice cream, and a pasta bar will help you recharge between tastings. Add games for kids and adults alike, and you’ve got the perfect getaway to kick off the summer season.
