Every summer, a corner ofthe Belgian Ardennes transforms into a massive playground for hot-air balloon enthusiasts. From August 21 to 23, 2026, the Hottolfiades return to Hotton, in the province of Luxembourg, with a program that combines aerial shows, fine dining, and family-friendly activities. A great idea for a getaway, just over an hour and a half from Brussels.
A ballet of 50 hot-air balloons at sunrise and sunset
Set in the lush green surroundings of Île de l’Oneux, the festival will bring together about fifty hot-air balloons from Belgium. But that’s not all! They’ll also come from France, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. The show is free for visitors, who can watch the scheduled takeoffs early in the morning and at the end of the day, when conditions are most favorable. For those who dream of going further, introductory hot-air balloon rides are also available. And the experience begins well before takeoff… Participants help prepare the balloon before soaring for about 40 minutes over the Ourthe Valley and the Ardennes countryside. Upon landing, a commemorative certificate marks the end of this extraordinary adventure.
Concerts, a barbecue, a craft market… there’s more to it than just the hot-air balloons
The Hottolfiades are about more than just hot-air balloon launches. Throughout the weekend, the site will host a variety of activities. There will be children’s activities, model airplane demonstrations, food trucks, and several concerts, including a tribute to Jean-Jacques Goldman on Saturday evening (9:00–10:00 p.m.). And fans of wood-fired cooking can attend the official barbecue contest for free ! Fifteen teams will have to create four dishes using a mystery “black box” of ingredients, all under the watchful eye of a panel of expert judges. On Sunday, a craft market will also showcase the creations of local producers and artisans, including jewelry, ceramics, textiles, and home decor (8 a.m.–8 p.m.). In short, it’s the perfect summer getaway!
